Chiang Mai Railway Station, 27 Charoen Muang Rd. On the eastern outskirts of the city.  Reserve sleeper tickets well in advance; lower births (larger) are pricer. Refunds: 80% 3 days before travel; 50%  up to 1 hr. After train deprture no refunds. Trains have a cafe area and food  service.
